MY NAME is Myrna Haag and I've created this Website as part of my work helping people in all walks of life obtain healthy lifestyles. I've worked with busy mothers who lack energy and can't seem to lose weight no matter what they do, and I've helped recovering cancer patients who want to armor their bodies against disease. I've even consulted to competitive athletes who are trying to reach peak performance. I consider myself an enabler, not an expert. I want to share with you what I've learned and motivate you to reach your personal goals.

Mental and Physical Health

Having Fun

HOW MANY TIMES have you seen someone exercising who looks like he or she is undergoing some form of punishment? Or perhaps you know people who eat food they don't like because they think it's healthy or will make them thin. Leading a healthy lifestyle is not about the mind fighting with the body over exercise and nutrition. It's a team effort. One can't really be happy without the other. Those just starting out sometimes find this hard to believe, but once you begin to achieve balance it all begins to fall into place. As my father says: "If it isn't fun you shouldn't do it, because ultimately you will find reasons not to do it, or you will be miserable while you do it; eventually you will become less productive, which means you will have little worth to others and to yourself."

Our minds want to be active, balanced and healthy just like our bodies. Fun is the main ingredient. This doesn't mean we should take our work and responsibilities lightly or frivolously, but just that they should be a natural expression of who we really are, not someone we are told we should be. This is true health.

Six months ago I found myself packing Myrna Bars with the residents of a local homeless shelter. After long hours of baking I look forward to packing because it gives everyone a chance to sit down and talk. We form a big circle and tell stories. Sometimes we cry, but more often we laugh. On this particular day some of the residents began to fantasize about what they would do if they had a million dollars. What would they buy? Whom would they meet? Where would they travel? Everyone seemed to agree that they never wanted to set foot in a homeless shelter again.

I could understand how they felt. The pain and humiliation of poverty and homelessness are terrible things to have to endure. I can see how after escaping them you might never want to look back. But for me, being in that wonderful moment of talking and sharing and packing bars was better than anything money could buy. I was having fun and being the person I really am. Who could possibly ask for more?
